I just bought train tickets for Venice and reserved a youth hostel room. Yea! How excited am I!

Venice...very expensive. Wonderful complex food....smelly canals. The gondoliers are on strike...should make you feel right at home.
The farther South you go in Italy, the less expensive it is, the more plain and better and fresher the food is, and the better the wine tastes. I may settle in Calabria.
I almost didn't make it out of Venice--there was a train strike between the hours of 9 and 5, with my train leaving (or not leaving, as was actually the case) at 11.
As for food, it was all to expensive so when I ate, it was a slice of pizza. But the pizza didn't have emmental cheese, which was a definite plus.
