Quick Question

So, here's a quick question:

I see these damn bumper stickers everywhere: Freedom is not free. What does that mean? Why is freedom not free? This implies that freedom is not the natural state of things. If it is not the natural state of things, what is it worth?

The "tyrants" part of the quotation is often omitted. Thos Jefferson was one of the few who survived the revolution...and did not too bad for it. Most of them ended up dead or financially destroyed at the hands of the British. It was a nasty fight.
